You ignore the person calling for help and carefully make your way across the glass to avoid further injury while trying to leave the destroyed pizzeria.
You have a sense that you're being watched as you step out onto the sidewalk and away from the broken glass and bodies of the waitress and Tony.
You limp away from the scene of disaster and can see people up and down the street running for cover. Your eyes seem to focus on one man in particular as he trips, begins to fall, then freezes mid-air with his face only a foot from hitting the asphalt. You can't help but to stare at him for a moment until you notice other things around you are out of place too: birds in the sky frozen in mid-flight, the flames on some debris no longer spreading or even flickering, and a car that's alarm had went off is no longer blaring.
It is as though time itself has frozen.
"Over here... " you hear a voice say to your left, a voice you recognize as the one from earlier when you'd signed that contract.
You turn your head and find something floating there and waiting for you in the nearby alleyway. It is some sort of phantom, and consists of a hooded black cloak and featureless, white porcelain mask. Where eyes should be you can see only black, but you can sense there is something in there. Something... trapped, and calling out to you.
"I've come to collect on the detail we've made. You survived, but you didn't save anyone from that explosion," the voice says, coming from the phantom. Although the ringing in your ears persists, you can hear this voice clear as day.
"What... happened?"
"A little mistake. Someone happened to press the wrong button at the wrong time, and boom," the voice says, sounding strangely joyful, "I can't say I wasn't involved."
"You did this?" you ask, turning to face it.
"You weren't fulfilling your contract, I needed some more help. Now, be good and wait for me in my realm. After I've spoken to all my new puppets I'll come and join you."
You feel yourself sink, and look down to see that the ground has swallowed up your feet! You try to move but find your whole body paralyzed.
"Make yourself comfortable while you wait... It is the last time you'll ever have a chance to," the phantom says right before vanishing. You get the feeling that even after your debt is paid, this thing is not going to let you go.
Not long after it vanishes, the ground swallows you completely and dumps you out into a black abyss. The only things you can see around you are yourself, and darkness. There is nowhere you can see to escape...
Game Over: You belong to the Phantom now, and forever.
