You advise the ship to descend to the ocean floor. The floor is not deep but it is good enough for the Red October to move while avoiding torpedoes. The Russian submarine commander realizes it, and descends with you to similar depth. He is still more than 3 km away.
The Russian commander launches two torpedoes headed your way. Borodin says the best way is to use full strength countermeasures and then rapidly ascend to surface. That would keep the torpedoes down and avoid collision. Another possibility might be sounding the collision, and trying to jam the torpedoes in the ground of the sea. That is riskier and not advised. Remember, there are two of them!
