The plane ride to Russia is smooth. You spent your time chatting with many senior officials and intelligence officers. Most of them have family in the States and are looking forward to Christmas vacation. They all relish this trip to Russia.
Once the plane has landed, you are greeted by Premier Chernenko and a large Russian contingent. They are very friendly with you. It takes a while for you to adjust to talking with an interpreter. The whole state is still mostly closed, even to you. Many of the government officials have blank stares and serious manners of carrying out their business. Nothing seems out of the ordinary, depending on whose perspective you take.
After a few days of ice-breaking, you are given an opportunity to go north to inspect the Naval Yards in the Barents Sea. Or, if you choose, you can stay in Moscow to take tours there, and gather intelligence. It will be cold up north.
