A hedge mage with a little magic has invented a magically delicious cheap summer time snack. Using prestidigitation to flavor water then cool it until it freezes onto a stick he makes a tasty treat for almost nothing. They don't last long, but he sells them for cheap and it's pure profit.
These frozen confections are especially popular with children but some people are getting concerned. This old guy is pretty creepy, and hangs out around kids a lot. Is it innocent senility and marketing or something more sinister.
Any seasoned adventurer knows not to expect the benign explanation. Further investigation may cause the PCs to discover a coalition of demons have been helping to bolster the mage's mediocre magic in exchange for access to the innocent victims. The demons possess the bodies of the children to spread chaos and try to persuade more of them to join their ranks. Ostensibly to visit the “wizard's” kitchen and see how the treats are made.
Can those well seasoned adventurer's prove they're worth their salt and find a way to save the children? Or will demonic children prove too hard to differentiate from regular ones for them to even notice?
