AW Pew

From Create Your Own Story

Tessa found her way to an empty pew in the church sanctuary. As soon as she sat down, she felt a lot better about being here. All the old resentments about not being in the wedding party melted away. After all, she thought, it’s probably for the best. At least she didn’t have to buy a dress she could never wear again--Tessa had plenty of those. She was about to reach for her phone to kill time before the ceremony when a husky voice asked her, “Bride’s side or groom’s?”

She turned to face the man… and what a man! Jet black hair, brown eyes, and a hint of stubble on those chiseled chin. He looked well-built in his nice suit, wrapped up in a cornflower blue silk tie… that wasn’t tied very well. Oh well, she thought, no one’s perfect… but he’s pretty close. “Um… the bride’s. We’re pretty close friends.”

“Really? I’m surprised we haven’t met before, then. I’m David, Derek’s cousin.”

“Tessa,” she held out her hand and he shook it. “But why would we have met? You didn’t go to Wesleyan, did you?”

“No,” David admitted, “but I spent enough time at Derek’s house that I met a lot of Ashley’s crew. I would have remembered you, I know it.”

There was something off about what David was saying, but Tessa couldn’t put her finger on it. What should she say?
