You stop Duran before he can leave. "Wait, he isn't expecting me today is he?"
Duran frowns. "Nay, lass. You are scheduled to arrive there sometime this week. Have ye something you want to do before leaving?"
You nod. "I'd like to say my goodbyes to a few of my friends in town. Also, I think it'd be a good idea to learn some more about the man I'll be marrying before I meet him. I know some merchants with good connections, so, since he's rather famous, they should be able to tell me how other people think of him. Get a feel for what I'm going to be dealing with."
Duran seems pleased. "Sure lass, seems like you take after yer father more than I thought, always the prepared one". He murmurs something under his breath contentedly and stalks off. You decide to take the comparison to your father as a compliment and leave for town.
You say your goodbyes to the people you are close to in town and visit the merchant guild. You got well-acquainted with the local guild master - although your intent wasn't originally to befriend him. (Read the history between Saya and the guild master)
The guild master gives you a smile when he comes in, a new trick he learned recently. Smiling didn't use to be his specialty. You exchange greetings and get down to the matter at hand. He listens to your description of the man you want to know about, conveniently 'forgetting' to mention why you're interested in him, he doesn't pry. "Hmm, there's only one man in this country who has the kind of resources to do all that."
