Nólsoy is a county (sýsla) and an island in Kalduroyar. The county consists the islands of Nólsoy and Svínoy, the last one a tiny island just outside the harbour of Argavík, the largest town at Nólsoy. Before 1995, the county was divided into two municipalities, but these were merged because of high costs.
Villages
Villages and towns in Nólsoy county:
- Argavík, the largest town with approx. two thousand inhabitants. Located at the southermost tip of Nólsoy, with a natural harbour formed by the island of Svínoy and a skerry; these landmasses coveres the harbour for bad weather. The largest workplace is the harbour, especially the shipyard. Ferry terminal with connection to Svínoy and Fjørðoy.
- Svínoy, located at the island with the same name, and covers the whole landmass. Between 10 and 20 inhabitants. Ferry connection to Argavík.
- Viðareiði, located at the western side of Nólsoy, just some kilometers north of Argavík. About 50 inhabitants. Road connection to Argavík, but no ferry; however there is wharf for smaller boats there.
