Borðoy is one of the smaller islands and counties (sýslar) of Kalduroyar. The island isn't divided into any municipalities, and the whole population live in the three small villages at the north coast; Seyðurnesið, Húsavík and Hvalnesið. The two first ones are connected by an asphalt road, so the inhabitants of Húsavík have access to the ferry port in Seyðurnesið. Hvalnesið has it's own ferry terminal. The fourth village, Grænvág at the south coast, was destroyed by a huge storm in 1891, which killed all the inhabitants there. Grænvág was never re-built.

The majority of the population is engaged in the fishing industry.

Borðoy is the southernmost islands of Kalduroyar.
