Brattnes (Brattanes in old texts) is the westernmost municipality of Kalduroyar, and consists of three villages separated by two mighty fjords. The administration is seated in Hvalsúnd, the southernmost village. Located at the peninsula Brattnes itself, Brattnes bygð is the smallest settlement. The northernmost village is Sand, famous for it's church.
The municipal shield shows an Atlantic Puffin on light blue background (like the sea). The puffins are the largest group of animals in the municipality (and the rest of the country in general), and in the summer time the number of them in Brattnes often rise to a number larger than the number of humans there. Between June and August, a reasonable number of birds may be hunted for local consumption after breeding is finished, as then an excess number of birds is available.
