It has been known when he was twelve years of age, he was scouted on the streets by SM Entertainment, and began training and was scheduled to debut in a idol group until he left several years later due to musical differences.

In mid-2012 he was scheduled to have his own solo debut until it was put off in August after he gave up the chance of releasing his own album to join the singing competition Super Star K Season 5. He was able to finish as the runner-up and as the most popular online contestant but shortly after it was announced he has been dropped off by his agency and although he would debut with his band during the firts round of promotions due to his previous contract signed, he will not stay for the second round of promotions. It has been rumored thatfeeling his popularity has increased with the appearance on television he demanded to be promoted as a solo artist but was rejected in return and as a result dismissed from the label, but it has been denied by both sides.
