"Black Diary" (Japanese: 少年～彼のプレゼント～) is the overall eigth release and sixth physical single release by Japanese idol girl group 8th & Beyond. The single was released on August 31, 2014. It was written, produced by member Rie Kotobiki, who always penned the lyrics, making this her second released work for the group after the single キャンディーケインのキス. Besides the normal version the album also comes with two alternative versions; an acapella live recording version and a instrunmental version.

Reception

It received explosive commerical and critical success and officially established the group as a popular act on nation's level. This song achieved the first position on all music rankings within simply ten hours of release. On the first day the single sold 330,800 times, by the end of the first week it sold 588,000 copies. It stayed firmly in the first position on Oricon's weekly and monthly music chart in August. By the end of the year it was awarded as a Triple Platinum by the RIAJ physical shipping certification. It was the fifth most played song by an idol group on radio and television networks that year.
