How a Singles match works
Lock up & Chain
The match starts off with a lock up that’s goes into a pre rehearse chain of moves.
Heel Beat Down
Where the Heel takes over the match by a form of cheating like raking the eye, and dominates for several minutes.
Rest hold
A hold applied more lightly at a designated point in a match in order to save energy.
False comeback
when a face mounts a brief offensive flurry before losing it to a heel wrestler after being dominated for several minutes. Usually, it occurs before the actual comeback.
Heel Beat Down
Where the Heel takes over the match by a form of cheating like raking the eye or and dominates for several minutes.
Superhuman comeback (if Face is planned to win)
when one wrestler, usually a face, no-sells his opponent's offense, usually after several minutes of being dominated. This tactic usually sets up the finish and victory by the face wrestler.
Dusty Finish (if Heel is Planned to win)
The finish has had multiple variations over the years, but the most common version centers around the referee being hit and knocked out and a substitute referee coming in and eventually declares a clean pin fall or submission win. At this point the original referee is revived and reverses the decision, declaring a disqualification from either the hit on himself or another incident, like an illegal wrestling move or toss out of the ring. A full version of the finish would take place in a championship match, in which the champion causes the infraction and the challenger scores the pin fall, only to have the original referee disqualify the champion, thus depriving the challenger of the title since it can't change hands that way. Other versions have the match decision reversed in the days following the match. The reversal can also be declared by other authority figures in the wrestling organization.
Cheap shot win
when a wrestler uses a low blow or a foreign object to get an advantage over his opponent and win.
