HB Journal for Jul 4, 1939
From Brackbillwiki
Turning our backs on a good chance to lay in bed and "cat nap" to our hearts desire, we once again arose shortly after 5:30 and began a holiday.
After canning raspberries, planting celery and the like, we picked up Nancy and went over to "Garden Spot" (home) to spend the day.
The sun put its mark on shirtless me, pitching wheat with the rest of them. We quit, or finished early, and had a dandy swim and a big freezer of icecream in the evening.
We returned home and retired at no early hour but with burn in my back.
