Oh Yes! Dear Diary the "better half" takes the pen while "Hubby sleeps".

We rose reluctantly when the alarm woke us but hurried to get Breakfast and send hubby to work. I worked around in the kitchen all morn making things to satisfy our hunger. In afternoon Herman mowed yard & hoed garden while I cleaned and entertained Emma R. Herm made a lot of noise falling down the cellar steps but thank goodness he wasn't hurt. Nancy was here too today. Well, it's 9:25 and no company yet, so I guess I'll wake Herm & we'll go to bed!

This is the first entry in the journal where Jane writes the journal entry. This was to happen again several times in 1940.
