HB Journal for Aug 25, 1939
From Brackbillwiki
When I got to Youngs on my way to work, I noticed the four of them getting ready to leave for the N.Y. Worlds Fair and so I said "goodby" to them.
We had to put a couple of plank in the bottom of the pit before we could start up at the mill.
Jane & I kept house at the Young's home this day and night. Jane baked two cakes and we listened to the news of the threating war on the radio.
We had a nice date in the old chair & slept in Daddy & Mother's bed.
Commentary
The "news of the threating war" that Herman refers to is probably the signing of the Nazi-Soviet Pact the previous day.
