Bio
Kyoko has always been a "quiet girl" who never really stood out or had many friends. She always kept to herself, and although she was a good student, she was never recognized for any sort of outstanding achievement. She is capable of holding a conversation, but she would never make the first move. Most people who know her wouldn't say they really know her, and the people she passes on the street would probably not even remember her five minutes later.
She was a classmate of Teru Mikami and came to admire his integrity, particularly after he stood up to some girls who were making fun of her because she wasn't part of their "cool" clique. This admiration gradually turned into something approaching obsession, as she silently watched him and became more and more enamored of his strength of character. Of course he never noticed her, as fixated as he was on his own achievements and sense of justice, and he probably never even realized that she was following him as he moved on to law school and a career. She was one of the few civilians who took real note of his affection for Kira, and she may have even suspected that he was involved with Kira himself. This of course only fueled her admiration for Kira's cause.
After Mikami's disappearance Kyoko became distraught upon realizing that he had probably perished along with the defeated Kira. Something inside her snapped, as if the one good thing in her world had suddenly been taken away, and while she eventually resumed her impassive demeanor, she became prone to dramatic outbursts whenever she encountered any mention of Kira.
When Kyoko heard that there was a resurgence of Kira activity in the US, she almost immediately left her old life in Japan (which wasn't really that exciting anyway, since she had never really settled into a stable career and had no real relationships) and came to America to seek out the new Kira movement.
Her one prized possession, which she carries with her everywhere, is a short pencil that Mikami dropped in school one day.
