27: Bad Things

1. God told His prophet Mohammed that

2. there is great harm in both intoxicants and

3. gambling. Mohammed said: “although both of these have some

4. benefit for men, their harm is greater than

5. their benefit. Such things are abominations

6. devised by the Devil. The Devil seeks

7. to stir up enmity and hatred by means of

8. intoxicants and gambling. Avoid these so

9. you can prosper.” God is wise.

Commentary: This book warns against gambling and the consumption of intoxicants (alcohol, drugs, tobacco, etc). Ideally is it best to stay completely away from these things; if one can not, he should do these things in extreme moderation. The founder abstained from all these things. However, the founder did say that in order to defeat evil and accept something as evil, one must know that evil. Therefore one cannot totally reject all these things from the bottom of the heart without first being exposed to these things. Only afterwards is total rejection possible.
