Goldsmith, Julius

From Lane Co Oregon

Is there any sort of marriage index for Lane Co. in the late 1880's? Re the 1900 census, Julius GOLDSMITH and Delphina (-) were married about 1888. I think he is the son of A. (Aaron?) Goldsmith, listed in the Lane Co. 1880 census as a single son, age 17, born California. Julius GOLDSMITH married Delphin KAHN on 18 March 1888 at the house of A. GOLDSMITH, by Reverend P. ABRAHMSON of Portland. Witnessed by S. H. FRIENDLY and Leo J. STOCK. Surety posted by Geo. C. SWIFT.

[edit] Marriage

The 1900 Census- Julius was born November 1863 in Oregon to both parents born in Germany

Delphinia, was born in November 1866, born in Germany and immigrated 1881. They were married for 12 years (Census enumerated 14 June, so marriage sometime between 15 June 1887 and 13 June 1888) by the 1900 Census.

The 1910 Census has them married 22 years, census enumerated 15 April, so now married sometime between 15 June 1887 and 14 April 1888.

[edit] Parents of Julius

The 1920 does not have years married, but it shows Delphine immigrated in 1870. It also shows Julius's father born in Alasce (appears to be Alasce, however, the correct spelling would be Alsace) (spoke Frence) and mother in Honover (Germany). --The 1880 census shows the A. Goldsmith that you suggested might be the father, 60, born in France; Marietta, 43, in Hanover. This matches what is enumerated about Julius in the 1920 census. So, I agree there is a good possibility, more work might confirm. --The 1870 Census shows Henrietta 33, not Marietta. It shows Isaac J, age 8, versus Julius.

The 1880 Census shows the children of A. and Hennrietta:

Rosa 19, CA

Julius 17, CA

Saml, 15, Oregon

---1900, a Sam S. Goldsmith in Albany, Linn County, OR, born April 1865

Bertha 13, OR

Celia 11, Cal

Charlie 7, OR

Lena 5, OR

Zida 1, OR

--In the 1920 census, the family listed just above Julius and Delphine:

Celia?, age 50

Bertha, sister, age 54

Zida A, 40.

---so, yes, it strongly appears "A. Goldsmith" is the father.

---Julius was then "Isaac Julius Goldsmith". I couldn't find any name used by him after 1870 except Julius.

The 1900 census has "Aron" Goldsmith, born Jan 1820

Annetta, born Nov 1836

Chas, born August 1872.

The 1910 census for Oregon City, Clackamas, OR

Hor Antte (as transcribed, but could be Henrietta or Annette, age 75 born in Germany, head of household

Cacilia (as transcribed, probably Cecilia)

Berthia (as transcribed, Bertha)

Zeada (as transcribed, Zeda)

--so Aron died between 1900 and 1910.

--The Oregon Historical Records: http://genealogy.state.or.us/ has an Aaron Goldsmith death 11/19/1904 in Portland.

--That database shows a Henrietta Goldsmith died 3/5/1919

--A marriage in 1927 between a Bertha Goldsmith and a Lester E. Bailey in Benton County...could be a different Bertha.
