Melvin R. Andrews of Eugene died September 1 of age-related causes at age 87. No service is planned.

He was born April 8, 1920, in Springfield to Oliver and Berthe Jakobsen Andrews. He married Janet Pitney on May 16, 1942, in Junction City. Andrews graduated from Springfield High School and attended the University of Oregon. He served in the Army Air Corps for four years. He worked for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone for 25 years, then raised beef cattle.

He established a family business, Andrews Manufacturing Co. Inc. in Eugene.

Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Sanders of Salem; two sons, Alan of Eugene and Roger of Fort Collins, Colo.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His wife died January 29, 2002, and a son, Douglas, died previously.

Internment will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements by Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield.
