Anderson, Lester Ellis

Lester Ellis Anderson (1921-2000) — also known as Les Anderson was born in Portland, Oregon on December 5, 1921. He attended Jefferson High School in Portland, and the University of Oregon where he was the President of the Associated Student Union (ASU). He served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II in the infantry, landing at Normandy in June 1943 and ending up in the Army of Occupation in Pfarrkirchen Germany. After the war he was Alumni Director and subsequently Assistant to the President of the U of O. He subsequently purchased Lumberman's Buying Service and Random Lengths Publishing Co. in Eugene. Les was the mayor for Eugene from 1969 to 1977. He was a member of the Rotary. He lived in Aspen, Colorado for a time. Les died in Eugene of cancer on October 8, 2000 and after cremation, his ashes were interred at Willamette National National Cemetery in Portland.
