From Lord Of Utterdom
Jehosef greets you with a bright smile, handing over the reigns to your beautiful steed.
"Ready to head out?" he questions. You nod in response, swinging up onto your horse.
"I have taken the liberty of packing you some breads my wife baked, along with some jerky from the local butchers. There is also a bedroll should you need to camp and firemaking tools should you have need of them." You thank him, and he assures you it was the least he could do for the Crown Prince.
"Be careful," he adds. "The roads are tricky and rogues hide around every bend." He points through town, down the cobblestone path that leads through it's center. "At the end of town, you'll find three roads. The western road would take you a month to double around to your destination, and it is the most rife with bandits. Steer clear of it. The southern road leads through the mountains and through just about every county, but it does not move through Windlok, where your father says you have a companion waiting. East is the most direct route, taking you to Windlok, and then on to Shaern fairly quickly."
You thank him for directions, and he wishes you good luck. You ride on through the town, the peasants bowwing as you pass, and you smile and wave at the children who scramble to run alongside your horse.
When you reach the end of town, three roads spread out before you: Eastward, Southward, and Westward. Thanks to Jehosef's direction, you know that the Western road would spell certain doom, so it's obviously out of the question. However, if you ride East, you'll have to part with the extra coin purse and pick up company, and maybe that's not what you want. South will be much longer ride, with far more variables, and you'd have to watch your own back. Either way will eventually lead you to Shaern, should you survive the ride there.
