You head for the back roads out of town, and start walking.
You proceed several hours. After a quick stop for food and water, you keep walking.
Day turns into night. You keep walking. By now you must be a good 15 miles from home at least.
A car pulls up alongside you. The passenger door opens.
By the overhead light in the car, you can see that the driver is a middle-aged black woman. She's the car's sole occupant.
"Hop in," she says, in a friendly tone. She gives you a gentle smile.
