You run, and he stays right behind you

From Create Your Own Story

The muscles in your back tense as you wait for the feel of the creep's sharp blade between your shoulders. It doesn't happen. You keep running, the creep right behind you, close enough to easily cut your body or your head with one swing. But he doesn't take the swing.

You don't have time to wonder why not. You just keep running. Maybe the creep wants to tackle you, but he doesn't seem to be trying to do that either.

You don't know how much longer you can run; you are getting tired. Several hours of pursuit, flight, and terror, are taking their toll on your body; you can feel yourself slowing down. Your breath is rasping through your lungs. And you are still waiting for the creep to stab you or grab you, but he seems to be in no hurry to do either.

You don't know where you are going, and you don't care. Part of you wants to keep running, to do anything you can to escape. Part of you wants to give up, to stop running and kneel and wait for the machete to fall. And part of you wants to stop running, turn, and fight. You are smaller than the creep, and worn out from running, and unarmed, but you should be able to do something. You can't kill him, but maybe, just maybe, you can disable him somehow, stop him from chasing you long enough to get to safety.

What do you do?
