You burst abruptly into tears. You sob out your story, not leaving out any of the sordid details, as Tom simply holds you and continues to caress your face.
When you finally finish, he says nothing, merely guiding you to a large, flat rock where he sits down and lowers your body with his. Your head is now on his chest instead of his shoulder. He stops caressing you and just holds you gently. You can hear his heart beating.
After a few minutes, Tom says quietly, "Get dressed, Josie, and come with me. I have my own place and you're welcome to stay if you don't want to go back to your house."
That sounds like a good idea to you. After a simple lunch [sandwiches and water] you find yourself lying on Tom's bed, your head on his chest. "Shall we call your mom?" Tom asks. "I'm sure she's worried."
