"I don't want to stay here," you say.
She pauses for a moment, and you think maybe she'll decide that it isn't such a good idea after all.
"Hudson," she says at last, "Contact everyone you can. I need to know how many towers are still operational and who's in a position to fall back to the command tower. That includes towers that are manned but not operational. Can you get MacGowan?"
"That'll take some time, boss," says the man next to you. You'd almost forgotten he was there. "I think I can get MacGowan for you, but its better than a mile through the tunnels. With those creatures around? Are you sure..."
"I just need one emplacement manned. They'll never make it here anyway, but they may be able to save the rest of us."
You have no idea what's going on but its clear a decision has been reached and that, at least for now, your part in matters is done.
"Aren't you getting ahead of yourself, ma'am?" you hear the Jensen ask. "We don't know whether or not this idea will work."
"Trust me, captain," she replies. "I know what I'm doing, and I also know we'll only get one shot."
She turns to you. "You. what does the wall look like to you?"
You look behind you at the wall. There's a faint shimmer there, like just like the tree. It has a more... flickery quality to it. You start to worry again.
