Stay in the ballroom and wait until he returns

From Create Your Own Story

You grab a drink from the refreshment table and stand around, sipping your drink and waiting for Anthony to return. After a minute or two, a body guard enters the ballroom and yells for everybody’s attention. “We have a situation on our hands and will be checking invitations,” he says to the room. “If everybody will please have their invitation cards ready and a photo ID on hand, it will make this process go easier.”

You don’t have a photo ID that matches the invitation card. If they check you, they’ll know that you don’t belong here. You look around the room, but all the doors are blocked by guards. You can’t escape the room. Terror begins looming over you and you begin to panic.

A guard approaches you and asks fro you invitation card and identification. You show him your invitation and drivers license. They of course don’t match. The guard then frisk searches you for weapons, which he of curse finds on you. You are handcuffed and draged away to a closet somewhere in the mansion.

As you are taken away, questions rush through your head. Why did I take up this job? Wouldn’t a desk job be good enough for me? I made enough money in my first mission; why couldn’t I quit after that?

You are tied to a chair and two guards interrogate you. You refuse to answer their questions and they seem to get frustrated at you, but don’t threaten you in any way. In face, their guns were holstered the whole time.

About five minutes in. A third guard enters the room and pulls out a silenced gun. You scream and close your eyes in fear. This is it, you think to yourself, waiting for the gun rounds. This is the end. This is how I’m going out; trapped in a room, defenseless and helpless.

You hear two soft bangs, but no pain. In fact, you don’t feel anything. You open you eyes and see the third guard standing above the dead bodies of the other two. He pulls off his glasses and you see his face. It’s Harvey. He has come to save you.

“Alright, bud. We’ve got to get out of here quickly,” he says to you while cutting off the rope that binds you to your chair. “The police are coming to take you to jail. We’ve got to hurry.” He pulls off the rope and leads you out the door and down the hall. He and you run down to the end of the hallway and through the door to the kitchen. He and you rush out the service entrance and dash into the woods. In the front yard is a group of the party guests standing in a crowd with body guards standing around them. You don’t see any squad cars or police officers around.

Harvey turns to you and says, “I’ve been following you. We wanted to make sure you could handle a mission all alone. I wasn’t stalking you to be creepy or nothing.”

“Now what do we do?” you ask him. “The other target’s still in the building.”

He glances over at the mansion. “Can’t go back in there.”

The gravity of your mistake hits you and you look down at your feet in shame. “Now what?”

“Looks like you’re not getting paid. Sorry, man.” He heaves a heavy sigh, and then looks back up at you. “Let’s get out of here. Grab a beer. Let’s forget this whole thing, okay?”

You’ve failed your mission, but I’m sure you can do better next time.
