Lady Van Helsing/Demand to know what this is all about

From Create Your Own Story

You turn to Dr Frinks with a dangerous look on you face. "I was good enough to come, Philius, despite the abruptness of your telegram. Now, tell me what is so important that you had to call me out here, while unclean abominations still lurk in the dark? You know the importance of the continuance of my father's work."

Dr Frinks seems to almost withdraw in terror from you. Though he was always somewhat spineless, you've never seen him like this before. You make a note to keep a close eye on this 'Dr Dexter' as you proceed. Dr Frinks recovers after a brief moment, then says "Dr Dexter, why don't you give Lady Van Helsing an overview of your discoveries, since you were the one responsible."

"We must do so on the way," Dr Dexter replies, glancing at his pocket watch. His English is very good, but you can detect a bit of an accent, not quite Arabic, but similar. "The procedure must be well under way before high noon today, or we must wait another year to make an attempt." Dr Dexter takes his hat and gestures to the door. Finding yourself unwilling to leave Dr Frinks alone in Dr Dexter's company, you decide that you must go with them for the time being. Following him outside into the harsh African morning, you find a carriage and driver waiting for you. After you and Drs Frinks and Dexter enter, Dr Dexter turns to you and begins to speak.

"The trip will not take long, just to my experimental station at the edge of town. Now, I am sure you wish to hear the details of my discovery." You nod. "I am an electrical chemist by trade, and an Egyptologist by hobby. Some time ago, while perusing a segment of recently unearthed papyrus, I came across a remarkable discovery. Now as I am sure you know, during the years prior to Egypt's conquest by the Romans, the Egyptians developed the practice of mummification, believing that it would permit them to find new life. But what those scrolls seem to indicate is that, rather than being merely myth, these beliefs had actual basis in scientific fact. With the help of said scrolls I have re-invented the procedure for returning a mummified individual to life, and today, at high noon when the stars are right, I intend to prove it by performing said procedure."

As the cart pulls to a stop, you think over what Dr Dexter has said. Surely he is mad, to attempt such a thing. But is he merely deluded, or has he come across a secret that must not be known by man? If it is the latter, you are half tempted to let the experiment proceed, both to teach these two scientists to respect the domain of God, and to know for certain that the procedure works so that future attempts can be prevented.
