Hyde Road - Check the damage to the car
From Create Your Own Story
You clamber across the passenger seat and climb out of the car. The icy wind is now blisteringly cold, you close the door trying to keep the warm inside. It's really rather dark on the street, the headlights from you car the only source of light on the mountain side. You can make out the lines in the snow where you car came sliding across the road. You look at the side of you car that is facing the road, giving you a small bit of skeptic optimism, this side of the car looks mostly fine to your untrained eye, but it is the other side of the car that is pressing itself up against the barrier. You walk around to the other side of car hoping that everything will be fine.
It takes you a moment to register what has happened, it isn't particularly easy to see as the car pressed hard up against the barrier, but after looking closely your hopes are dashed. Both of the wheels on the drivers side have buckled and the tires have blown out. You burst into tears, collapsing onto the snow covered street. You sob uncontrollably for a few minutes before the cold damp feeling of your now wet stockings reminds you that you need to keep warm. You get back inside you car, you dig your handbag out from under the seat and pull out your cell phone. No signal. Frustrated you scream a profanity at the useless electronic device. Could it actually be any worse. You are about to breakdown, crying, again when you spot a set of lights coming down the road. With the sudden fervor of renewed hope, you lean across the car and start flashing your high beams, please god, can this person stop.
As the vehicle approaches, and it rounds the corner you get out of your car and desperately wave you arms in the air the standing in the road making sure to get their attention. The oncoming cars stops, it is large car, the off road type, in a dark gray. The driver rolls down the window, there is a gentleman inside. You approach the window, and the words come out like vomit. "Please help me!" Your voice is shaking, on the verge of crying, "I've had an accident." You can't help it, the tears come as you speak.
He pulls up his hand break, shuts off the engine opens his door, climbs from his car. "Let's take a look he says, in a deep voice." His head lights are still on and lighting up you car. With the extra light you can more clearly see the damage, and it certainly looks bad. The snow is falling thick and fast and the wind is blowing strongly against you as you stand in the road. He walks around to the side that has merged with the barrier and drops to his haunches to get a better look. He frowns, then looks up at you. "Are you alright he says with concern in his voice. Your tears still trickling across your shivering cheek. He stands up, "Are you hurt?" he probes further.
"No," you say half sobbing, "I think I am fine."
He walks up to you and puts he puts a hand on your shoulder and looks you in the eyes, "It will be alright he says," In the pale light you can't make out all his features but he has dark tender looking eyes. He is a fair bit taller than you, has broad shoulders and large hands. "His words only make you cry more and you bury your face in his shoulder. He puts his arm around you holding you as you cry. "We can't do anything for your car tonight from the look of things, but my house is not far from here." You lift you head and look up at him, trustingly. "You could stay there tonight if you wish, and we could get some help in the morning once this storm has passed?" He says it questioningly although you know there really isn't much option. You feel a little unsure, you don't know this man, perhaps it would be a better idea to stay in a Motel back in town. Your body is shaking as you make up your mind.
