Hana

From Create Your Own Story

You wake with a start, suddenly wide awake, and sit bolt upright. Your sudden movement startles the person sitting beside your bed so badly that they leap from their chair, sending it crashing to the ground. You look over at the person, equally startled.

A girl about your age stands there, staring back at you through wide brown eyes. Her deep chestnut hair is tied back with a single strand of ribbon, and her bangs are swept to either side of her face. She is wearing a light brown kimono, and a bright-hilted short sword sits at her waist.

"Oh...Oh!" She gasps as you stare at her, seemingly breaking her trance and taking a step back toward the bed. "You're...you're finally awake..." She bends, rights the chair, and glances back to you. Turning to the small end table beside the bed, she picks up a small wooden cup and offers it to you. "You must be thirsty. Have some water."

Confused but indeed very thirsty, you nod once and gratefully accept the cup. The cool liquid washes down your throat, and you sigh with relief.

The girl smiles. "My name is Chizuru. What's yours?"

You think for a moment, but...nothing. A name? Yes, a name! You are- "Hana."

Her smile widens. "Well, how do you feel, Hana?"

You frown back, trying to remember...but there is nothing to recall. Only dark...and sadness. Nothing more.

"I...where am I?" You ask, puzzled.

"With the Shinsengumi. We found you outside, barely breathing, and brought you here."

Chizuru starts to continue, but a sharp knock on the door of the room stops her. The door openes just enough for a man with deep purple hair to lean in and nod to Chizuru. "We need you, Chizuru."

Immediately serious, the brunette nods back. "Yes, Saitou-san. I'll be right there." As he retreats from the room, Chizuru glances apologetically back at you. "I'm so sorry, Hana, but I have to help the others... I'll be back to check on you in a little while, so please stay here, okay?"

With that, she nods again and disappears through the door, leaving you alone. Now that she's gone, you have a chance to glance around. The room is empty aside from the table, bed, and chair, A small window, just big enough to climb trough, is cracked open across the room. You could escape, if you really wanted to, or you could stay with Chizuru, who had so far been nice to you.
