You are Commander Loretta Adams, commanding officer of the UES Brittany, a dreadnought-class starship stationed in orbit around the planet Zeta Reticuli α, a dark water-world home to the peculiar Grey Aliens. Your mission there is simple; prevent hostile Scraw ships from attacking the homeworld of Earth's least trusted ally.
Today, like most days on this post, has been a dull one. You've liased with command back home, had a few cups of coffee, and are currently sitting at the helm of the Brittany wondering how your career led you to this bleak patch of space. Right now, all you have to do is keep watch. Endless watch over a vast black void through which no ships emerge.
With you on the bridge are your most trusted officers. There's Lieutenant-Commander Yuri Smirnov, your second-in-command, a tall blond Russian. There's Chief Engineer Yulia Longford, your typical ditsy blonde, but at least a skilled technician. And there are the new apprentices as well, interns really. Names of Akane Fujikoa and Jerome Leeson. They're young, kinda useless, but they make good coffee.
You realise just how bored you must be that you're now just listing off people who happen to be in the room. You need to do something before your mind explodes.
