Your eyes were red with tears as you made your walk through dirty alleyways, and down cracked sidewalks towards your house. Today had been awful. The other boys at school made fun of you, as they always did, because of the way you dressed, the way you talked, the way you looked. Normally you could shrug it off, but today was different. Now you were headed home, where your father would undoubtedly be drunk, and ready to berate you, or if you're particularly unlucky (which you usually are) he'll beat you, as he had last night.
You hated your life, and as you walked past yet another rundown building, you wished that you could just leave it all behind. As the thought crossed your mind you stopped in your tracks and for a moment a smile flashed across your face. Why couldn't you just leave? What's stopping you? It's not like anyone would miss you, or even notice you were gone, for that matter. And so it was decided. You were going to run away, but there was one thing you weren't sure of: where would you go?
