The whole day has been exhausting. Being wrecked has taken its toll, and adjusting to the fact you are now castaways has worn you out physically as well as mentally. Cate volunteered to maintain the fire. Half asleep, you see her throwing wood onto the fire again. "That should be enough to burn until morning," you hear her mumble to herself.
Like always when you are more than just tired, you just can't seem to fall asleep. Usually you would toss and turn, but you have to be considerate of Cate. She has been lying quiet for a while now, you don't want to wake her up. Sleep is just as precious to endure the exertions of surviving in the wilderness.
Just when you finally feel like floating away, you hear Cate whisper: "Jules? Jules, are you awake?" And after a while: "Jules?"
