Downfall/Hotel 8P

From Create Your Own Story

It is past midnight when you enter the hotel. Kirsten sent Julianne a text explaining that she and Will went to bed. They left the key to your room at the counter. Julianne collects the key and inquires the availability of room service. According to the concierge, the kitchen serves round the clock. Julianne orders tea to be delivered to your room.

Your room is on the top floor, at the end of the hallway. Kirsten's and Will's room is opposite to yours. Julianne unlocks the door and switches the lights on. There is a double bed, centered at the east wall, with nightstands on each side. There are windows to the north and west. The roof terrace to the west is accessible via glass sliding doors. Next to the entrance door stands a large wardrobe (useless for now) and a dresser with a large mirror.

A knock on the door - the tea you Julianne ordered. While Julianne takes care of the room service, you open the terrace doors. Besides an ensemble of a table and four chairs, two sunbeds and a beach umbrella are situated on the open space. The air is balmy, the sky is clear, the stars are twinkling in the night sky. Julianne comes out; she puts the tray with the tea and some biscuits on the table. You sit down. Julianne pours you tea and takes a cookie.

"The view is breathtaking," she says. You agree. You overlook the town, the streets are bustling with activity, even at this hour. Over the street noise, you can hear the waves breaking on the shore.

You enjoy your tea in silence. Then, out of the blue, Julianne says: "We need to talk about something."

"What about, mum?" But you know what it will be about. Her cell and the picture of you. But where will the conversation head? Will it be about her taking the picture... or you snooping around?

You wait for Julianne to gather herself. Just when you think she might blow the talk off, she says: "About the picture I took... of you?"

"Yes?" You don't need to ask how she knows you saw the picture. You recall that you were so surprised to find the image that you didn't close the camera app before returning Julianne's cell.

She covers her eyes with her hands, as if it would make it easier for her to talk. "You must think I am a terrible mother. A terrible mother and a horrible person. I... I don't - I never meant..." Her voice fails her.
