Downfall/Calm her down and think about how to help her

From Create Your Own Story

Your first instinct is to run to Debra to pull her out, but you stop yourself from doing that. It wouldn't so much good. From what you know, as long as you walk on quicksand, the surface usually holds you. It's only after stopping you start to sink in. You wouldn't be able to help her if you started to sink in yourself. Better to stay where it's safe for the moment. Debra isn't in an immediate danger. Contrary to popular belief spread by movies, humans usually don't sink in further than to the waist even if the water was deep enough. The real danger of getting stuck in the sand-water mixture is hypothermia, like you would suffer from in any waterbody over an extended time.

How can you get Debra out of there? She is too far out for you to reach her with your arms. If you had a rope or something similar, you could try to pull her out. Also, a branch of the tree extends right over Debra. You could try to climb the tree and reach down for your sister. Or you could call your mother and make her call the fire brigade (you'd call them yourself, but you don't know where exactly the cabin is located).
