You politely push her away so you can survey the wreckage of the room. "The power is out, and my phone won't connect. We need to get out of here and down to the police station."
Melanie nods, and in the dim light heads to her closet to grab some clothing. You shine the light over so she can see, but keep your eyes on the two men. They don't move much.
Melanie changes quickly, then follows you back to your room so you can change as well. You're quick about while she holds the flashlight. Once you've got your shoes tied, you take the flash light back and head for the garage, picking the car keys up off the kitchen table.
"I can't believe someone broke into our house and tried to rape me," she says, and for the first time the shock of it really sets in. You load into the car and start it up, wondering if maybe you should have just finished the assholes off. You punch the button on the garage door opener and back out into the driveway.
As lightning flashes through the sky, your horror grows. Abandoned cars litter the street, some still running and with doors wide open. Bodies lie across the road, on the sidewalks, and and across the lawns. You swear you can see people darting around in the shadows, and a few of the neighboring houses seem to have fires blazing through the interior despite the outside rain.
"What in the fuck?" You manage, just as you pull into the street.
"What do we do?" Melanie asks.
