Capitalization in a Title
From Create Your Own Story
The first word in a title is always capitalized, but after the first word, certain words do not get capitalized.
These words are:
- Articles: a, an, & the.
- Coordinate conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet & so.
- Prepositions, such as at, around, by, after, along, for, from, of, on, to, with & without.
the day The duck crossed The road
That's completely wrong. Capitalizing the first letter of the first word improves it a bit.
The day The duck crossed The road
That's better, but still not good enough. By making the words "The" before "duck" and after "crossed" will make it seem even better.
The day the duck crossed the road
Almost there, but so far. Make the first letter of the last word a capital is improvement. Also capitalize "crossed," as it's not an article, conjunction, or preposition. And even though "day" is a short word, it's also not an article, proposition, or conjunction, so you capitalize that, too.
The Day the Duck Crossed the Road
That is perfect!
