Gently, she puts down the bread she was slicing.
"Well, I was thinking about having another child."
Your mind reels - child rearing is a little ... unusual, in your family. Your mother continues speaking;
"I could do it again ..."
She pauses, briefly, before continuing.
"But, I was thinking maybe you'd like to bear it this time? Or, we could both do it together! It'll only take about a week, like it did with your sister."
She seems to beam at the thought, pink colouring her cheeks.
