However, as the age of superstition was eventually replaced by the age of reason; whereupon higher officials decided that guarding people against their own will was inhumane. The de Santas were forbidden from being near the remaining Cortez descendants, who then died to activate Maria's curse. Esteban, though trained in the arts of witch hunting and exorcism since birth, has since then taken a job as a janitor at an inner-city primary school.
