'Hill Monsters, Wolfen, and the Scottish Devil', Creed McFoen

From Create Your Own Story

You pull out the copy of Creed McFoen's 'Hill Monsters, Wolfen, and the Scottish Devil'. Creed like your father was a monster hunter, turned to the life when his wife and children were butchered by something that couldn't be killed with normal bullets. Legend has it he went after the beast following it into the woods and wasn't heard from for a week when he one afternoon stomped out of the forest carrying the head of some horrible hairy creature. After that he went from town to town, following rumor and folk story and killing whatever murderous monsters he could find, supernatural or otherwise. You turn your chair to the window and read by moonlight.

"The signs were few at first, a few missing cattle, and bloodied sheep with big footprints in the earth around them. Then the real attacks started. Two girls went missing and were never heard from again, and a third was raped. Her body was horribly clawed, her skin in places ripped to ribbons. She kept saying she was taken by some kind of cross between a man and a wolf or bear; big as life and as strong as twenty men. Her descriptions of it cast it to be a man with a beast's appetites and horrible disfigurements. While outraged, the villagers didn't believe her 'animal man' tale, instead blaming the hideous Idiot that lived on the outskirts of town. However they soon learned the error of not trusting the girls wits when they lynched the Idiot and found another village girl with her guts splayed out on the schoolhouse door."

You shiver despite yourself.
