"You're lying," Dez said, taking a step backward. "You can't be a virgin."

"Can't I?" Zeth said, his eyes narrowing. "I guess you'll never know." He turned and stalked off into the castle. Dez scowled and shook his head. What did the kid think he was going to gain by lying to him? Did he think he was going to get more sympathy? Dez had already made it clear that wanted to help, not to hurt him. Dez started into the castle.

"Excuse me, Dezzren?" Dez glanced back as Ellissan entered the courtyard, his fine silver robes flashing in the setting sun. "May I have a word with you?" Ellissan was one of the eldest mages not serving on the Council. Whatever he had to say was probably important.
