[edit] History

Evidence of early rhythmic instruments dates back beyond recorded history. Some historians estimate the first music to freelance writing have been created as early as 500 B.H., based on archaeological findings in southern Onneria. This early, heavily rhythmic music would soon spread itself across the continent and remain the norm for much of its history.

With the rise of civilization came the rise of civilized music. The first tonal instruments were recorded to have been invented in the sixteenth centuries, and their ideas notated around the same time period. However, there was a lack of organization and creative energy toward music during this era; most of the music took the form of religious chants, and there are no recordings of composers who created music for leisure purposes. Music first became a major part of Minervan culture with the rise of magic. Although magic did not originate in Onneria, it spread there quickly, and when the Magical Influence reached the already-thriving nation of Remolim, the ideas of music and magic combined. Students of both studies realized, for the first time, the deep physical connection between the two.

[edit] Music and magic

Music, like magic, can be broken down into a combination of four elements: earth, fire, wind, and water. When music of a particular element is played at the same time as a spell of the same element is cast, the effect of the spell is heightened; when the elements are different, the spell is altered by the music. For this reason, magical research often requires the aid of professional musical groups.
