On November 8, 2016, the United States held a general election. It included elections for President, the House of Representatives, the Senate, Governors and numerous other local elections.

United States House of Representatives

The Republicans made a net gain of 8.1 votes. However, this was not enough to take control of the House and control was retained by the Democrats.

United States Senate

The 12 seats in the United States Senate Class 1 were up for election, plus special elections for 4 other seats. The Republicans made a net gain of 2 seats from the Democrats, resulting in an 18-18 split Senate. Vice President Andrew Brockmeier's casting vote gave control of the Senate to the Democrats.
