Publication Date: July 2001

The Enforcers, a group of hired thugs who work for the Kingpin consisting of The Ox, Montana, and “Fancy Dan” Crenshaw, are hanging outside of a warehouse discussing robbing a local McDonald’s. Spider-Man is shown to be watching them while staying out of sight. During their conversation they proceed inside the building. Peter takes the opportunity to follow them inside and attack them. He indicates that he has been reading up on them and knows their names. During the fight, Peter proceeds to web up all three of the Enforcers and begins to question them about the whereabouts of the Kingpin. Peter is interrupted by Frederick Foswell, aka Mr. Big who is the under boss of the Enforcers. Foswell tells Peter that the Kingpin is throwing a gala fund-raiser in his office tower on Friday night.

• The cops interrupt Peter’s conversation with Frederick Foswell and attempt to arrest Peter. Peter flees the scene.

• The next day, the Daily Bugle publishes a headline labeling Spider-Man as a mob menace.

Mary Jane shares a soda with Peter at lunch in school and asks him out to a movie. Peter gladly accepts and they make plans to go out on Saturday. She initially suggests Friday but Peter tells her that he has to work at the Bugle, though he actually intends to crash the Kingpin’s fundraiser.

• Peter sneaks into Wilson Fisk’s offices and begins to look for any kind of evidence to incriminate the crime lord. Fisk is alerted to Peter’s presence and moves to intercept him.

Notes:

- First appearance of the Ultimate Enforcers (Fancy Dan, Ox, and Montana), Frederick Foswell (Mr. Big), and Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin).

- Kong makes a reference to “that dude in Hell’s Kitchen who runs around with that skull on his chest”. This seems to be a cross of references to the Punisher (who has a skull of his uniform’s chest) and Daredevil (who operates out of Hell’s Kitchen).

- Liz Allan has a freak-out concerning mentions of Spider-Man. This marks the beginning of her anti-mutant sentiments.

- The Daily Bugle was established in 1961.
