Ben Urich is speaking to a teller at a bank over his ATM card. She recognizes him as the reporter and praises him for his work against the Kingpin. At this moment, a man in a Spider-Man costume enters the bank, holding a guard who appears to be webbed up.

• The Spider-Man impersonator proceeds to rob the bank. He beats up the bank manger and demands that the tellers fill up bags with money. Ben Urich observes the robbery including the death threats that the costumed man gives to the bystanders.

• At the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson celebrates what he sees to be an exclusive story of Spider-Man turning rogue. Robbie Robertson and Ben Urich both express to JJJ that they believe this is out of character for Spider-Man. Ben says that he observed Spider-Man closely during the Dr. Octopus incident (Ultimate Spider-Man 20) and that this guy did not move the same as the man that Ben saw fight Doc Ock. JJJ gets angry at Ben and orders him to write the story anyway. Peter Parker sees this conversation and is quite distressed by the fact that someone is using his identity to commit crimes.

Peter walks home after work, contemplating his decisions. He thinks that telling MJ his secret might have been a mistake and notes that she is still freaked out about being attacked by Norman Osborn. As he approaches home, Peter sees a police car in front of his house. He panics believing that his Aunt May is in trouble. Peter runs into the house to find Gwen Stacy asleep on his couch and May in the kitchen talking to Captain Stacy. They reveal that Captain Stacy is going to a Police Detectives Conference in Atlantic City for the weekend and that May has offered to let Gwen stay with them for the time being.

Peter tells this news to MJ. She is very upset at this. She has an outburst at Peter for Gwen showing up in the middle of the night (Ultimate Spider-Man 23) and for now staying with Peter’s family. MJ states that she doesn’t trust Gwen and implies that she thinks that Peter likes Gwen. She asks Peter if he told Gwen that he was Spider-Man. Peter replies “no” and MJ then leaves without a further word.

• While doing school work with Gwen, Peter overhears a news report that says that Spider-Man has been caught in the middle of a jewelry heist on the Upper West Side. It is stated that it is a hostage situation. Peter excuses himself, telling May that he is running over to MJ’s house.

Spider-Man arrives at the scene of the jewelry heist standoff and attempts to talk to the cops. He states that he is the actual Spider-Man and tries to pint out that the man inside the store must be an imposter. The police open fire on Spider-Man. One of the bullets goes through Peter’s shoulder and he collapses to the ground.

Notes:

- J. Jonah Jameson states that the perfect headline for the front page will be “Spider-Man: Criminal. He then subsequently uses the headline.

- Peter is correct about MJ being freaked out by being attacked by Norman Osborn (Ultimate Spider-Man 25). She is actually traumatized by the event and will break up with Peter partly because of it in Ultimate Spider-Man 32.

- Captain Stacy notes that his wife is out of the picture, having left him and Gwen. May Parker seems interested in Captain Stacy and is obviously flirting with him a little.
