[edit] Appearance

karina.png

A fiery ginger marks the Linderoth family, as it does many Vadalian people, second only to the overwhelming amount of blondes. Karina's hair is long when let free, reaching around half way down her back. However, in the fury of battle, that kind of length isn't advisable, so she keeps it up, in a tight bun. When out of battle though, she takes care of it and lets it hang free or puts it in one of the many styles possible with that kind of length. Her hair is only one aspect of something that changes when she goes into battle. Out of battle, she often wears simple robes or tunics, or a pairing of both, considering the harshness of Vadalian weather. In battle, she wears a light, flexible set of leather armour. This supplies a modest amount of protection, but sacrifices only a little of her agility. Hanging from a belt round her waist you find her sword, Vollar, in a doe brown leather sheath, the hilt always riding a little way out of it, showing a readiness for battle.

[edit] Biography

Born to a poor, yet large and loving family, Karina enjoyed her childhood, though times were difficult for them. Her naivete brought her through, sometimes ignorance protected her from many of her family's troubles. A trio of her older brothers became mercenaries, the other, the eldest, stayed to help with the farm, as he'd inherit it eventually. One of the two mercenaries later joined the Vadali army however, he found the transition difficult, dropping out after a year or two and then never seen again. Rumours said he sailed the seas and then spent time on the mainland, but no news ever came.

The loss of a brother, two others who fought for pay regularly and a childhood filled with Vadali myths and legend lead Karina to follow in her siblings' route. To be exact, she wanted to be a mercenary, fighting for herself to gain an honest life. Preferring to the idea of self-employment and true freedom rather than being sat in barracks, waiting for a war to happen. As a prelude to this, a young Karina could often be seen in company of her brothers. She followed her brothers' around, watching them as they trained, trying to pick up on the skills and manoeuvres. Almost as much as watching them, she often played alone with a wooden sword she'd been made as a toy, athletically trying to copy their moves and succeeding to the best of her efforts. However, when she asked to carry one of her brother's weapons, she failed to even swing its weight comprehensively when she tried.

When at first she failed, she was only in her early teens but as she became older, she trained more seriously, the hobby becoming a serious career prospect. At the age of 18, leaving house and home for a life that ranged over the Archipelago, she worked as a mercenary for a hard handful of years. However, she never felt at ease not having an assured form of income; especially when the cold nights of winter drove in. With a couple of years experience under her belt, she followed her missing brother's route into the army. Though the memories of what happened to her brother had shown the path to be risky, she knew she was definitely sick of the mercenary route.
