The Confederation of Lequall, established by Tyler Hitori, lies on some of the land where Lycia once had reign over. The country is ruled over by the Marshal Houses, each with their own individual strengths and weaknesses. Lequall is known for its army, which is a highly disciplined and professional war machine. They are especially known for their heavy infantry units, the Hoplites, and their War Mages.

This is a list of all the equipment that you would most likely see a Lequallian soldier equipped with, as well as the weapon levels and equipment of the troops of Lequall.

Shuri

The weapon most used by Lequallian swordsmen, the Shuri is a slightly curved, one edged weapon with a very small guard. The handle is long enough to make use of two hands, although the Shuri itself is used in one hand most often.

Eyta

The bow favored by most Immortals and Snipers, the Eyta's name means, literally, wind. It is slightly recurved, and made of a hard wood, the only kind available in Lequall, and are thus, out of necessity, always a flatbow. Eytas also have reinforcing plates of horn and muscle, making the bow a bit harder to pull back, but the added power is always helpful. Eytas also have the extra string of the Compound bow, adding for extra accuracy, which is very helpful in the mountainous, cover-strewn terrain of Lequall.

Thital

Known by most soldiers as a "Pig Sticker", the Thital is usually a heavy spear used by the Hoplites and other infantry lancers of Lequall. It has a haft of about eight feet, with a thick steel spike at the bottom and a broader, heavier tip at the top. The Thital can be thrown, although not very far - it's main use is as a thrusting weapon.

Thitas

Used by the few Lequallian horsemen and by many of the more skilled Lequallian infantry lancers, the Thitas is even heavier than the Thital, but its added power makes up for it. Too heavy and long to be thrown, the Thitas is about ten feet long, and unlike the Thital, it does not have the extra spike at the bottom. It does, however, have a blade suitable for slicing and a hook for pulling other cavalry off of their horse.

Myren

An axe used occasionally by some of the Lequallian infantrymen and heavily used in naval combat, the Myren is used primarily on land to crash through armor in one heavy strike, and at sea to hack through boarding planks or ropes. The Myren is a wide, crescent shaped blade attacthed to a wooden haft. The head has a backspike used for breaking through armor or punching through wood, and the weapon as a whole is about three feet long, perfect to be used in one hand. Despite its small length, the Myren cannot be thrown.

Talis

The staple spell of Lequallian War Mages, Talis is bound in plain brown leather with gold lettering on the cover. After casting the spell, a small ball of liquid, red hot metal appears above the hand of the caster. With a simple throwing gesture, the ball is thrown, slamming into the target and burning them intensely and potentially stunning them.

Sythil

Another plain book, this one purple and bound in silver, Sythil is used by War Mages to punch through armor or simply a close range weapon that works better on some combatants than a sword. When cast, Sythil creates a small blade of electrical energy that extends from the caster's fist, something like a Katar. The blade can last for up to three minutes although several Amaunros War Mages have managed to make it last for five, and at any time the caster can dispel it.

Delas

Usually bound in black leather and written on in gold, Delas is one of Lequall's greatest assets. It is effectively an artillery spell, and an extremely effective one at that. Although inaccurate and hard to cast, Delas's area of effect and long range more than make up for this. When cast, an intense burst of flame appears in the general vicinity of the designated zone, although the burst can get big enough to make up for this inaccuracy.

Imasil

A spell only used by the more powerful War Mages, Imasil is used as a defensive spell. Creating a wall of ice at the designated zone, Imasil creates the wall first, and then shoots out numerous lances of dense ice, designed to punch through enemy armor and flesh. Imasil is primarily used as an offensive stopper, although numerous castings of it might be necessary to completely wall off an area.

Ahura's Shield

This staff takes the visage of a shepard's crook, although bound in silver and studded with gold. Ahura's Shield is another very important aspect of Lequallian tactics, as it is one of the few things that enable a large body of troops to be together, because it makes soldiers much more resistant to magic.

Ahura's Wings

A short stick with two wings at the tip cast entirely out of Lequallian steel, Ahura's Wings enable the more powerful War Mages to teleport troops both too and from various positions, allowing Lequallian armies to advance and withdraw to an unprecedented level. Although the casting time is long and the range is not quite as great as could be hoped, Ahura's Wings are invaluable in a battle because of the confusion it can cause among the enemy.

Narel

Most copies of Narel are bound in plain red books with dull bronze lettering, appropriate for a spell utilizing fire and earth. After a cast of Narel, a small red dot appears, which quickly expands into a series of gleaming red cracks. The earth churns, and molten rock spews out of the ground in one pillar like burst. Narel is used effectively as a terrain maker, as pools of lava generally make difficult terrain to get over.

Swordwind

Created by a War Mage in the Shurimyta Party, the Swordwind takes its name from both the party and the mythological event. After a pretty long casting time, blades of wind spiral out from the designated point, slicing through anything unfortunate enough to be caught within the radius.

Rockdriver

One of the most powerful spells Lequall has, Rockdriver is only able to be used by a few of the casters in House Amaunros itself. A small area but intense in nature earthquake occurs, driving up numerous implaing shards of rock. The rocks are permanent and material in nature, but the high speed at which they are shot up through the earth means no defenses will be able to negate the damage dealt by this spell.

Ahura's Judgement

Only a few copies of this tome exist, and all of them are extremely sacred to Ahura. As with a few other spells, only the Priest-Mages of House Amaunros can use these tomes to a great extent, and even then it is not that great. Ahura's Judgement summons blasts of pure white flame from the heavens, hurling themselves at the ground where they detonate in an explosion of snow white. All twenty copies of this book are bound in gold, and on the first page, before the magic words begin, it shows a passage from the Atlemorion: "And they will know that I am Ahura, for I will rain fire upon the heretic, the blasphemer, the infidel. They will know that I am Ahura, when I lay my furious vengeance upon them."

[edit] The Marshals

The Nelnyons of Lequall hail from their respective sovereign houses, united under the power of the Sanelyon, or Grand Marshal as translated by foreign countries. Each Marshal is the head of his house, and therefore the most dominant and powerful man in it.

Marshal is a hereditary title, passed from current Marshals to their children when the time comes. In the event that a Marshal is killed or passes on and has no heirs, or whose children are not worthy of the title, a new Marshal is selected from amongst the best of the House's ranks. Systems within the Marshal Houses allow for the removal of Marshals whose performance is less than satisfactory, and the same voting process used to select interim Marshals is used to choose a new one.

The Marshals are the highest ranking members of Lequallian society, one hailing from each house. The Grand Marshal is chosen from among all the Marshals, and along with the others, they form the council of decision-makers of Lequall's government.

The training grounds of Lequall, The Agoge is a massive complex in the capital city of Illovendial. It is home to barracks, stables, forges, libraries - effectively everything any warrior needs to become a master warrior of Lequall. It is also the main fortification of the capital city, and the Grand Marshal's Palace is inside the Agoge, along with lavish manors for visiting Marshals and other officers.

The secret Lequallian National Guard is the Hoplon Guard. It is a small, close-nit group of about 100 men. They are handpicked assassins, bodyguards and other men in the employ of the highest-ranking Marshals and the current Grand Marshal.

[edit] The Faith of Ahura

The god of Lequall is known as Ahura, and the Lequallians say that he is the same entity as the God of Ainor. They call him The Uncaused Cause, The Mightiest Warrior, and The Greatest Marshal. His high priest is the Grand Marshal, which is why most Grand Marshals could use Anima Magic (which is thought to be sacred to Ahura). Ahura is served by Nine Daevas, each one representing a trait that is thought to be necessary for perfection. The eight heroes of The Sundering are thought to have been a living incarnation of a Daeva.

Ahura is opposed by Angra, called Ahriman or The Serpent. Angra is served by Nine Mainyu, each one representing a trait or sin that prevents perfection. The being called Zul'Tal is thought to be an avatar of Angra, and many Lequall believe that Adramelech is the daughter of one of the Mainyu. The worship of Angra is outlawed in Lequall, and the punishments are so dire that only the most depraved would dare it.

All Nine Mainyu were sealed away with their master, Angra, at the dawn of time by Ahura. The Sundering was brought about because Valistrix, the Mainyu of Hatred, managed to escape for a time.

The religion does not condemn violence or pride, for it teaches that violence is necessary for defense and that pride is justified if you did something to deserve it. It condemns religious intolerance (although insists that there is no path to salvation except through it) and believes that there cannot be any compulsion in religion.

[edit] The Atlemorion

The Lequallian Code of Honor laid down by Tyler Hitori at the dawn of the Lequall race, the Atlemorion dictates the life of every man and woman from the time they are old enough to walk until their death.

The code of honor teaches that battle is a necessary part of Lequallian life. Whether it is a simple duel or large scale battle, the Atlemorion teaches that the best way to obtain glory is through battle.

Examples of things that a Lequallian finds glorious:

  • Slaying an enemy officer or commander
  • Slaying an enemy Champion
  • Winning a duel against a superior opponent
  • Be the commanding officer in a victorious battle
  • Dying in a major battle

Dishonor is much harder to accumulate though. Failure is not always dishonorable, because there might be some very good and very real reasons as to why someone failed. Although honor is gained in relatively small amounts, dishonor is gained in huge ones. Treachery brings the most dishonor, and depending on the size of the betrayal, it might dishonor the entire nation. Only death is a just reprisal for treachery.

Respect is a huge part of Altemorion. Although honor is not gained from showing respect where it is due, not showing respect is dishonoring the superior and the one who shows a lack of respect. Superiors are to be approached, the opposite of other cultures, because it would show a lack of respect and humility on the part of the subordinate.

  • When addressing a superior officer two or more ranks above you, you must place your fist over your heart and bow, making a 45 degree angle with your body. (Applies to all but Nylneyons and Sanelyon)
  • When addressing an immediately superior officer, you must place your right hand over your heart and incline your head. (Applies to all but the Sanelyon)
  • When addressing someone of the same rank, you must use your right hand to tap on your heart three times with the tips of the fingers. (Applies to all but the Sanelyon)
  • When addressing a person immediately subordinate to you, you must put your left hand, in a fist, over your heart and incline your head. (Applies to all but Aililyn)
  • When addressing a subordinate two or more levels below, you must place your left hand over your heart and tap three times with the tips of your fingers. (Applies to all but Taralyn and Aililyn)

5: Illovendial is founded by Tyler Hitori in what is now The Shieldland.

7: The Treaty of the Eight, named in remembrance of the Eight Heroes, marks the formal beginning of Lequall along with Endal, Sons of Sand, and Ainor.

8: Tyler gives the Atlemorion, the Lequallian code of honor, to his people. Construction begins on the Agoge.

11: Construction on the Agoge is completed, and the first soldiers are sent there for training. This sets the standard for Lequall for their soldiers for years to come.

15: Tyler Hitori dies. Due to being unable to find agreement on who should be Tyler's successor, his five most powerful followers split Lequall into several city-states, becoming the Nelnyons, the Marshals of Lequall. Helasas becomes the most powerful of these, as it gained jurisdiction over Illovendial and was the most easily connected to other countries.

23: A surge of nationalism spreads throughout Lequall, and Nelnyon Almarath Caethras calls for unification amongst the five Houses. The current political parties of the Shurimyta, Taelan, and Myrseneir begin to take shape.

Il Sharal, "The Unification", begins.

24: House Naraskedal, being home to the newly-formed Shurimyta Party, supports Caethras' push for unification and the two houses join together. Taking Naraskedal's lead, House Rinovindis also allies itself with Caethras at around the same time.

25: Amaunros is annexed into Lequall, as its magical and technological prowess is highly prized.

26: Helasas had become increasingly split in its support of a Sanelyon, and the internal strife that had formed there began to tear the house apart. In a desperate gamble to save the house, Helasas joins the Confederacy - this, unfortunately, has the reverse effect, and two smaller families split from Helasas: Yelancia and Goreuryn.

With Il Sharal complete, Almarath Caethras becomes the Sanelyon of Lequall and given the title "the Unifier". Land formerly belonging to Helasas becomes the basis of The Shieldland, which is shared by all the Nelnyons and contains Illovendial.

31: An Illyrian Morph Horde invades the Battle Marshes, sparking the first Morph War. The Lequallians manage to stall their progress through the Marshes, eventually halting the Illyrians and forcing them to turn back.

32: Almarath dies, and Cassarovos Amaunros becomes Sanelyon.

37: An Illyrian horde again invades Lequall in the Second Morph War. Cassarovos proves an incompetent commander, as many fatal mistakes allow the Illyrians to push their way through The Shieldland and to the walls of Illovendial. He is killed defending the wall, and is referred to as Cassarovos il Narin, "the Fool".

Caralyne Caethras is is quickly elected as Sanelyon. The Siege of Illovendial begins.

38: Caralyne proves much more battle-ready, and the tide of the war changes under her command. Most notably, Salevran Naraskedal and Arond Rinovindis become instrumental in this turn of events. Arond fully utilizes the potential of the newly-developed magoballistra, which helps keep the Illyrians from ever setting foot inside the city. Salevran becomes key in reclaiming the Shieldland, and is awarded for his bravery many times, including killing a Juggernaught in single combat and defeating an enemy Overlord, helping to disable the Illyrian lines.

The Illyrians are expelled from Lequall, and Caralyne begins to be known as Caralyne il Herilas, "the Redeemer".

44: Caralyne dies, and Salevran Naraskedal is unanimously elected as Sanelyon. Detractors often called him Salevran il Atairis, while fans referred to him as Salevran il Almarath, due to a parable involving Almarath and his brother, Atairis.

46: Salevran orders the invasion and annexation of Laudia. In only a single battle, Laudia's army is utterly defeated and their king overthrown.

48: Salevran receives a vision from Ahura, and to the shock of the Lequallians, he resigns from his position as Sanelyon. Arond Rinovindis, known as Arond il Nocal, "the Shield" since the Second Morph War, becomes the current Sanelyon.

50: The RP begins.

Complexion and Appearance

Skin: Any kind of tan, from moderate to dark.

Hair: Platinum (whitish silver) or Brown —More often than not, Lequallians from the southern parts of Lequall have darker hair, and those from the central and northern parts have platinum.

Eyes: Blue (only with platinum hair) or hazel/green/brown

Height: Lequallians are typically short. A tall Lequallian is 6'0" at their tallest, and the average is about 5'10" in men and 5'5" in women.

Armor/Dress: Any Lequallian military man or woman has golden armor, and features that gold as an all-encompassing part of their wardrobe, because gold is the Lequallian heraldic color. Hoplon Guards intersperse that gold with purple, and those from Marshal houses mix in the color of their house (detailed in the Marshal Houses thread).

Background: Most Lequallians are born into normal families. In this case, normal is one that sends their sons and daughters to the Agoge and into military service, and in rare cases to university. They believe in Ahura and the Atlemorion and more or less have the same ideals and beliefs. If your character is any kind of fighter at all, then they went to the Agoge, which people enter as Tirones at age 7, and graduate as Milites at 18. Anyone around 21 and older is more than likely to be a Hippeis; Centurions usually range from 23 to 30, a Tagmatarkhis from 26 (in exceptionally skilled cases) to their mid/late thirties, and Ephors anywhere from 30 to retirement. The Hoplon Guard is an entirely separate rank, detailed in the Hoplon Guard thread, as is the Marshal rank, which is hereditary and has no age limits.

Names: Lequallian names are very specific in their containment to the region, and they follow a certain trend.

The Shurimyta Party

  • Three swords borne aloft by clouds on a purple field is the symbol of the party.
  • Purple armbands and tassels on weapons mark members of the party.
  • Very Conservative Socially - Almost Puritanical adherents to the Laws of Lequall and the Church of Ahura.
  • Moderately Conservative Economically - Free trade, except in special cases.
  • Expansionistic
  • Extremely Nationalistic, almost Jingoist
  • Fanatically loyal to the Grand Marshal.

The Taelan Party

  • A garden surrounded by fortified walls is the symbol of the Taelan Party
  • The Taelan wear lots of expensive jewelry to show off Lequall's wealth.
  • Very Liberal - In favor of protective tariffs to discourage foreign visitors, and want a more 'common law' approach.
  • Think that Lequall should become an earthly paradise.
  • Expansionistic
  • Want less reliance on the Church of Ahura and more on 'rationalism'

The Myrseneir Party

  • A vast, fortified wall manned with pikemen and archers.
  • Laiko always wear gold studs in their left ears, and golden headbands when not in combat.
  • Isolationistic - Think that Lequall should wall itself off from the world's troubles and maintain a strong military in order to prevent people from coming in.
  • Moderately conservative socially
  • Moderately liberal economically
  • Want the individual Marshals to have more power, with the Grand Marshal acting mostly as a military overseer and administrative head.
