Former Nation: Lequall

Group: The Conclave of Magic

Mafax: Diamond

Rank: Mafaxiarche

Age: 31

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 186 pounds

[edit] Personality

Androkles is still loyal to Lequall, but does not approve of its current state. He does his best to respect Aryna's authority and that of most of the other Mafaxiarchen, minus (insert Emerald Mafaxiarch here), who is his rival in everything. He is a shining example of the Battle Mafaxiarch. The War Mage is blunt and to the point, never expecting any attitude from his Magi. Despite being intensely fierce in battle, the War Mage remains as cool and complacent as a Lequallian trained in the Agoge. He dislikes Dark magic and believes it to be evil; none in his mafax use it as a result.

[edit] Appearance

Androkles is young and sturdy and of an average size for a man his age. He is somewhat bulky for a magic user, though not too much. His skin like his father's is a dark olive, but his hair is long and golden like his mother's. His eyes are a vibrant dark brown. His hair is kept at a long length, sometimes tied up in the back in a ponytail. His garb is a showing of elegance. His clothes are always cleaned, fresh, and starched. His jacket is a dark blue, rimmed with a golden trim and held together by a golden tassel pinned by two diamond-studded brooches. The armor worn under is silver, the color of his Mafax. Strapped to his shoulder is a silver pauldron lined with a dark bronze-gold that shimmers as he rides through sunlight. He wears dark leather boots; his belt holds several pouches, and his tomes are stored in these. A sword hangs at his belt.

[edit] Biography

Androkless father, Eliud Amaunros, was renowned for his abilities as a Lequallian War Mage. And therefore, he wanted the best for his only son, Androkles, though he neednt have worried. The Agoge training the boy was put through was just like that of any other Lequallian, yet it was considered the best training on the continent. He graduated from the Agoge a War Mage, hoping to live up to his own fathers legacy and become a strong fighter.

Half an inch smaller and Androkles would have been too small for the Agoge, but he was, thanks be to Ahura, of the right size. As a boy, his nurse trained him to endure and survive. She thrashed him for the mere reason of teaching him that pain was to be expected, and one must endure. He taught him to fight his fears, in fact, his fears were to cease to exist, for he was a Lequallian, and in Lequall, there is no such thing as fear.

At the age of seven, his training was taken into the hands of the state. He entered the Agoge, where he and his peers, supervised by the paidonomos, were trained. This consisted of physical exercises such as dancing, gymnastics, and ballgames. He was tutored in music and literature as well, for Lequallian warriors needed to be well-rounded and intelligent. He made sure to learn, for he knew a good soldier had to fight with his mind as well as his tome. Of course, he never retained much of a passion for this information, but as it was necessary, so should he learn it. He and groups of other boys were taught democracy, moved into groups of 15, and held elections.

At the age of thirteen, he was sent off into the countryside in the ritual of the Crypteia. He was forced to steal his food, making sure not be caught or to risk being severely punished. Though a few of his peers met this fate, he did not, and he made sure he stole enough food to last him a while, dividing up his rations into meager quantities. He returned and was initiated, and began his training. He had learned never to expect praise. The expected was to be expected, and the praise was in his own mind, others did not say it. He was trained to be self-sufficient, democratic, independent. He was taught to fear and respect the one true god: Ahura.

From then until he was twenty, he was trained fervently using his favorite weapon, anima, since it could be used in so many ways. He was trained in the use of the sword as well, because War Mages relied on these for closer melee combat. He was trained to fight in a group, with a phalanx. At the age of 7, he'd entered a child. At the age of 20, he left the Agoge a warrior. Well-spoken, battle-hardened, democratic, and well-versed. He was no mere soldier. He was a Lequallian.

He tested himself, training with other men and sparring with them. A young Hoplite he had a rivalry with, Hesiodos Yelanahcia, was killed in a match accidentally by Androkles but they believed this to be a murder. The Lequallian knew he was marked for death. He fled to Endal, and met a beautiful woman by the name of Hercilia. She was the wealthy daughter of a nobleman, but she fell deeply in love with the War Mage, and her parents did not seem to mind the fact that a Lequallian escapee was with their daughter, as he kept his past concealed. They were given a house to live in, in which they had their only child, Thysios.

Thysios was an average boy, always wanting to play outside instead of focusing on his magical studies. His father believed it to be the Lequallian blood that ran through his veins. He wanted to teach his son swordplay, but his mother insisted instead that he learn magic. She coached him in offensive Fire spells. He grew a fond fascination for these spells as he learned them. His father reinforced his skills with his own knowledge. But then a rebellion arose in the area while he was on tending to some business in Cercium and rebels torched their town. Thysios and Hercilia burned to death, and when Androkles returned home to nothing but the smoldering ashes of their city. Brokenhearted, the War Mage fled Endal for Tavrica, where he spent days in solitude. Then he left Tavrica for The Thanedoms, because the beauty of the trees gave him no joy; he wanted to start a journey.

His ill luck accompanied the boy when a stable in the Thanedoms was found burnt to the ground. All evidence pointed to Thysios, who was innocent without a way of showing proof. He'd been framed, but a girl named Aethril, as repayment for saving her from bandits one day in the mountains, helped clear his name and the two escaped to Ainor. They returned to Endal via the Inland Sea. At the time Androkles had grown some sort of bond to Aethril. He could not quite explain it, but he felt a fondness for her, almost like she was his child or more. They stayed together, heading to Cercium in hopes of finding a job, and found one at the Conclave of Magic, joining the Diamond Mafax. Aethril became his Stahngril, the bond continuing to grow stronger between them as time went on.

They fought by the Diamond Mafaxiarchs side, encountering many battles, the Mafaxiarch teaching Androkles much about the fight. In one such battle with the former Mafaxiarch, a former Ainori Apostle named Ernst (a fitting name meaning "battle to the death") faced a creature called Gorna. It was unknown whether Gorna was human or something else altogether, but Ernst strove to defeat it. He and his Stahngril ventured into a cave, and when Androkles tried to follow, Ernst slammed the stone door of the cave shut in front of him, telling him he had a feeling the Conclave would be needing a new Diamond Mafaxiarch. Androkles waited for hours before Ernst's Stahngril returned, soaked in blood, reporting his master's death and the escape of the Gorna, then committing ritualistic suicide before the Magi could stop him. Androkles returned to the Conclave, told them the dismal news, and was promoted. Now he seeks out Gorna during his fight for justice, hoping to avenge Ernst and his Stahngril.
