[edit] History

Raymond Diehl is the youngest member of the Wizard's Council, born in 1975. He grew up during the rise of the Silicon Age, and was on top of the new technology almost as quickly as it came out. Once out of high school, he was taking a year off before going to college to work when he was approached by a man who said he was with a technical firm in town that was looking for interns. Ray signed up immediately, but was quick shocked indeed when the owner of the firm ended up being one of the Gentry. The young man was spirited off through the Hedge...and set to guard his Keeper's fields. Day in and day out, he was hung by his arms on a wooden pole and was made to look over the large wheat fields. When the crows came - and came they did - he did his best to shoo them away. It worked sometimes, but they always got some of the wheat. For every piece of wheat that was stolen, Ray's Keeper slid a thin piece of straw into Ray's body; after about five years of this, there was nothing fleshy left of the poor boy. One day, when the crows arrived for their daily feast, he managed to call a few of them over, and he made a deal: they could take all the wheat they wanted if they would just get him down. The murder spoke amongst themselves for a minute or two, then soon after Ray found himself flat on the ground and the sky blackening with the forms of thousands of crows descending on the fields. Willing his straw-muscles to move, he booked it out of the fields, through the Hedge, and back into the Real.

Until Ray's return in 2004, the position of the Autumn King was only temporary, with each ruler working for a year and stepping down. However, with his quick wit and devilish charm (and a number of favors in the field of creating new identities), he was able to convince the local Autumn Court to name him their permanent King.

[edit] Description

In his mortal seeming, Ray looks like your average teenager: short straw-colored hair, brown eyes, a grin almost always on his face, wearing jeans, a raggedy Mariners baseball cap, sneakers and various amusing t-shirts. He moves very loosely, like he doesn't have full control over himself. Behind the Mask, though, he is the quintessential scarecrow: straw poking out of places in his burlap 'skin', his face literally painted on. His raiment takes the form of his hat, which is wide-brimmed and a green so dark it's nearly black. He's very outgoing in terms of his personality, and is always interested in the newest gadgets.
