[edit] History

Albert Lahr was born in Seattle in 1932, the son of a mid-level Boeing executive. He grew up during the boom of the bomber business; when the orders stopped coming in, however, his father lost his job. Al, who was 14 at the time, dropped out of school and worked with his father at a grocery store to raise money for his family. He continued to study on his own, however, and was able to earn his GED by the time he turned 18. When the Korean War started in 1950, Al joined the Air Force and ended up right in the thick of things. In 1952, he was on patrol when he heard a cry for help from another soldier. He headed towards the call, but soon found himself pushing through marshes that he didn't remember being around the camp. Wandering for what felt like days, he finally rested atop a large rock.

When he awoke, he found himself in a savanna, with a mass of various animals around him. These creatures were led by a huge man dressed to the nines for a hunt. He picked up Al with one hand and took him back to his abode to introduce the poor mortal to his new compatriots. Over the next thirty years, Albert served his Keeper well, soon becoming the king of his pride. He was the ideal lion; no scavenger was he. In time, though, memories of The Before began creeping back into his mind; thoughts of his family, of the men he served with in Korea. When the time was right, he bolted for the edges of the savanna, his Keeper and the rest of his pride close on his heels. He managed to escape, and emerged at Fairchild Air Force Base in 1982, startling the AP who found him coming out of the barracks.

Albert, who was now calling himself Leonidas, now had a good bit of trouble on his hands. According to the military, he had died in 1953 in Korea; however, here he was, thirty years older and spouting about lions and hunters. He was promptly arrested, questioned, then sent to the naval hospital at Bremerton Naval Station for a psych evaluation. Luckily for him, a Wizened Chirurgeon by the name of Sawbones found him there and was able to get him out before he was stashed away and forgotten by the military. Through Sawbones, he was introduced to Dorothy and Stanley; the three formed a motley and rode out the attack on the freehold by Loyalists in 1985. Once he was settled with a new mortal identity, he took a job at Boeing and quickly moved up the ladder.

[edit] Description

The Summer King is an imposing figure, standing at a towering 6'6". His hair is a tawny yellow and doesn't like to stay combed down. His eyes are a piercing hazel, and his face is slightly feline. He wears a well-made tailored suit, which adds to his commanding presence. Behind the Mask, his lionish features come to the fore: his hair becomes a venerable mane, his eyes become those of a cat, and his suit changes into a military uniform done in emerald green and gold. He has a sense of eerie calm about him, like he's merely waiting to pounce.

[edit] ST Notes

  • Sees the acts of his fellow Summer King Grandfather Thunder to be disgraceful, and will not stand hearing his name mentioned in his presence.
  • Knows well the magus who goes by the Shadow Name Fall of Night, as both take interest in Boeing's business ventures.
  • Is wary of the magus named Maab; she dwells too close to Arcadia for his tastes.
