C-3PO

C-3PO is a protocol droid from Star Wars, the straight man of the duo R2-D2 and C-3PO.

He can speak lots of languages and has often helped out the Jedi. He was built by Anakin Skywalker, and later went on to help Anakin's son, Luke. Notably, he once had his head transplanted onto the body of a Battle droid. Then another time he became the god of the Ewoks. Oh, that C-3PO. He always cracks me up.

Threepio, as his friends call him, is consistently very anxious and prefers not take risks, in contrast to his wild & crazy buddy R2. Much of the humor of his situation (because, after all, the pair of them are comic relief) is derived from the contrast between the comfort he seeks and the dangerous situations into which he's thrown.

• In an episode of The Simpsons, C-3PO and R2 were referred to as "the gay robots from Star Wars."
• Similarly, in Futurama, he's shown being crushed to death by Prof. Farnsworth while muttering, "Oh, dear."
• He was played in all 6 movies by Anthony Daniels.
